Relatively shallow water, locked drags on large spin gear spooled with 80lb braid, the average GT weighing in at 15-20kgs wanting to get back into the reef edge. Very visual and very hard fighting fish. We have been doing this for years, many overseas customers come here just to have a shot at these fish. Rated as one of the better spots in the world for GT popper fishing.
Tinaroo Dam is something different, the fish there can be hard work.
Until you hook one up you’d say they were lazy, after you hook one you’ll be searching for words.
Before the days of Tinaroo you may have fished for years to break that magic metre mark.
This could happen in your first days fishing at Tinaroo. The dam is all about big Barramundi so you don’t catch big numbers, but hey they’re big, real big.
Wading the beaches of Cape York sight casting to a huge variety of fish,
Barramundi, Permit, Golden Trevally, Giant Herring and Queenfish just to name a few. Offshore, schools of Tuna and Mackeral smashing bait and anything you throw amongst them.

Travelling in to the massive river systems, targeting Barramundi until they’ve destroyed your favourite lure or stolen it, tropical fish are very hard on gear.
Some days you can end up with cricket scores, every day you’ll have a great time and who knows how many fish you’ve caught and frankly who cares, you’re on holidays.
