We are still catering for lure fishing and offshore Marlin and GT fishing it’s just we are kept busy with fly fishing bookings.

It was a good season for flyfishing at Hinchinbrook and hope the next will only be better.

Here are a few pics from the last few charters before the season came to a close, to see more from the rest of the year have a look at our other site.

I had a great few days recently with the Mission Beach lure fishing team, Doug got a taste of Barra fever last year on the western side of Cape York so he headed a new team in there again this year with Aaron and Andy along for a shot at the title.

The trip was very successful, plenty of action some new country explored and some good R & R..

Barramundi, Saratoga, Threadfin and Blue Salmon, Mangrove Jacks, Fingermark and Queenfishwere the main species for the trip.

Hinchinbrook and surrounding areas have been fishing well, the weather has been smiling on us and hopefully more to come. With two weeks of flyfishing aorund the corner, glamour weather is always on the wish list.

There are some gaps available for Mothership trips in July/August and possibly late November, if the rush of day to day life is getting at you a week on a mothership will iron that off.

Good fishing,
Dave Bradley

Offering a range of trips in a broad range of destinations both here in Australia and overseas, to find out more we have a new website..

www.australianflyfishingoutfitters.com.au

Fishing at Hinchinbrook started the year very well a good wet season to flush the wetlands will keep the Barramundi population happy and plentiful.
Cape York is still pushing out plenty of freshwater the first week off the mothership went well with Barramundi a prime target on both lure and fly. The second week out of the Loyalty Beach Lodge didn’t go that well, pelagics being the main target we were dished up some dirty water and had a tough time finding happy fish, this didn’t stop the guys having a great time and the staff at the lodge did a great job at making sure it all went well.

A couple of glamour days at Hinchinbrook with a Japanese honeymoon couple produced a few good fish on their first Barramundi trip.

Some really good dates that are left include the 1st week in May, the first week in June, the middle two weeks in August and the 2nd week in Sept.

The 3rd week in May has just become available and has great tides…

The New Year is upon us and the begining of organising and planning fishing trips is well under way.

Cuba is our holiday destination this year, a group of friends and myself are heading over targeting Atlantic Tarpon, Cuba is one of the spots to sight fish these monsters in shallow water.

On the home front slots are filling steadily and it’s looks like being another busy year, the usual trips and location options will be available, Hinchinbrook and Cape York.

Peak months for visiting Hinchinbrook, Sept-Nov are filling fast so if you are interested in getting a few days in, send me an email. Other peak times of April/May are moving along quickly too. I do have other guides working with me so we should be able to get you the dates you’re after.

A couple of snaps captured off the patio recently.

The wet season is off to a good start with good rainfalls right through the state. This should be conducive to another year of good fishing. It also means not much will be happening here over the next month, fishing can be red hot if the conditions are right but somedays you will definitely need your wet weather gear.
My good friend and client Ken Culgin has been at it again, he send me up a couple of dozen flies as a late Xmas present, people look into my fly selection and gaze at some of the brilliantly tied flies, well mostly they’re the ones Ken sent me…mine do the job but are not up to KC’s standard.

Thanks again Ken.

Good fishing, Dave Bradley.

A regular client and friend Charlie Taylor decided he needed a fishing fix before the festive season hit, he packed a handfull of fly rods and headed up to Hinchinbrook.

We hit the flats of Hinchinbrook in search of well anything really and found almost everything we wanted. The water colour and clarity was excellent and most of the fish played the game. Nearly every fish of the trip was sight cast to.
The last day we had a few good shots at Permit, with one miss bite and another last minute refusal, never mind these other critters and many more made it all worth while.

10 species for the trip with some awesome sights on the flats, a big Queensland Grouper crusing in three feet of water, a 10kg Giant Trevally sight cast to in 18 inches of water and glamorous sights on the flats of Dunk Island.

Good fishing and a merry Christmas to everyone.

Summer is here in the tropical north, temps are rising, storms are busting at the seems and the wet season threatens, talk is of an early wet season but we’ll have to wait and see.
The busy end of the charter season has been and gone, the fishing is still very good this time of year. Most of the avid anglers are heading home to partake in family holidays.

A few charters are booked in through the Xmas- New Year period so I will continue putting up a few posts. Shannon and I will also be doing the DVD work he’s been wanting to do for a while.

Now is a good time to get a booking in for next year, many regulars already have, and with the chance of another good wet season the fishing again will be very good.

Next year we can easily look after a party of up to 8, fishing 2 anglers per boat, dates will be limited as they already are filling up.

Diashi, a young keen Japanese angler on his 3rd trip to Hinchinbrook and Jake, my son, at 18 months a young fisherman in the making, well if you can get him away from the sand !!

A few big Queenfish, a couple of hot sessions on Barramundi. both on Fly & lures.

Hinchinbrook has been fishing well this year and still performing well, heaps of fun sized Trevally, Mangrove jacks and Barramundi. Barramundi are in closed season until the end of January so all the fish are released, many beside the boat only gently lifting a couple in for a quick photo before their release. It is important to look after fish you are going to release to ensure their best chance of a healthy survival.

With the busy work season quickly coming to an end, it will be time for the crew and myself to get out and do some fishing ourselves. We’ll keep you posted.

Good fishing, Dave Bradley

It has been a busy start to an early summer, the heat is on in North Queensland and so are the fish, the weather has been a little patchy but there is always somewhere to fish out of whatever is dished up. Alex, Dan & Tom made their first journey north to Hinchinbrook and where surprised at the beauty of it’s natural landscapes and wildlife and we also caught them a few fish, the boys caught their first Barramundi, under Alex’s keen instruction. Can’t wait for the next trip.
The Canberra connection had a week at Archer River with Shannon and myself, the guys did well for Trouties, just getting one in when I can, Brad and Danny are covering the gig for Flylife so that should hit the mag latter this year.

Amelia, Jess and Craig Daily (Clearwater Trout Guide from the Snowy Mountains area) had 3 days last week, Jess got her best Queenfish to date, Craig cracked his first Barramundi and a good time was had by all even if it got a little windy.

Hitoshi and Karl fished the last two days with at Hinchinbrook, Karl has Barra fished before but today was his best yet, the guys boated over twenty Barras from over thirty hook ups in wet and windy conditions, yesterday wasn’t as good but some Threadfin Salmon and sightfishing action made up for it. I’m off to the Cape tomorrow with Gavin Platz from Tie’n'fly Outfitters and a group of keen flyfishers. Another report soon.
Good fishing, Dave Bradley

Shannon and I had the GLoomis boys at Hinchinbrook for a couple of days, Graham Todd, Adam Burzacott, Ross Johnson and Ken Stein.

The guys were up in the north doing some instore demos and information evenings and we organised to get them out on the water for a couple of days to try out some of that new product. Someone’s got to do it !!!

Ross and Ken were keen to do some flyfishing, particularly sightfishing, Golden Trevally, Barramundi and Threadfin Salmon were on the target list and we covered that pretty well on the first day, switching teams on the second day Shannon got the boys onto another few patches of fish with Goldens, Giant Trevally and Cobia all mixed in.

Graham and Adam found the Barramundi a little slower with the neap tides but ended up with some nice fish. Jacks, Fingermark, Barramundi, Cod and Javelin fish
